Meeting: 07.10.09
Posted on August 14, 2009M.A.L.T.S. was enjoying the good life at Sailing Hawks!
Hi to All, I know... I know..., You are all wondering, what the hell... I haven't heard anything about the M.A.L.T.S. Meeting held on July 10, 2009! To be quite honest with you all, I have been busy with work, lost my computer and the dog ate the notes from the meeting! Actually, all of those things are true except for the last part about the dog eating the notes. So we are off! The meeting was held at one of Lon's properties at Sailing Hawks. For those of you who missed the meeting you truly missed a great time. Not only because the beer was terrific, as usual, but because how often do you get to party in homes worth over a million dollars? These were unique custom built homes that were fantastic. Our beer was right at home being that, they too, are worth a million or so dollars! Many thanks to Lon for hosting and sorry about the broken glass, stained tile, marks on the wall, pee in the pool, etc.. We had a good time ;). Dan Smith (a/k/a Jim Dan Smith) showed up for his first M.A.L.T.S. Meeting and was welcomed with open arms and a pint of beer. Dan is a "gas passer" (anesthesiologist) here in our town and a damn nice fella. Welcome. Old Business: Doyle suggested that the M.A.L.T.S. website be outfitted with a coop page and a page with a supplier list. Doyle also let us know that the brewfest held here in Havasu was to take place Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Rotary Park. Doyle talked about the issues with the fencing, advertising and sponsors. It seems as though M.A.L.T.S. will not be able to serve homebrew at the brewfest because of county health department regulations. Lon suggested that we serve M.A.L.T.S. recipes at BB's tent. (Jaime's notes now say that Mary was being naughty). Rich brought us up to speed on the recent trip by Rich, Mary and Greg to San Francisco to attend the Brewing Network's 4th Anniversary Party. Sorry Rich... Jaime's notes only say "BNA4, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah -Rich you Suck Ass!!! you had a fun time in my favorite city, you suck, end of story, BNA4 YOU SUCK!!". I think at the next meeting we will discuss anger management issues. Regardless, a good time was had at the BNA4 and it enabled us to have an "in" to get Lon, and BB's on the map with a possible interview with the BN. Rich updated us on the mugs. It seems as though the laser machine will not be able to be used to etch our mugs with the logo. We will adjust fire and talk to Printing Plus and have the logo screened on the mugs. Update next month. Christian talked about being approached by the owner of "The Spot". Christian was told that The Spot wanted to hold an informal brewfest and serve M.A.L.T.S. beer. And why wouldn't they? It is so damn good! The legal issues were debated and I think that the consensus was that we could not provide homebrew for sale. This would not preclude us from brewing our recipes at BB's and taking up Lon's beer and our creations in BB's kegs. I think it is a dandy idea and would give us an excuse to have another great party. New Business: Lon updated us on the prospect of brewing his Freedom Bridge Amber Ale for 400+ VFW posts throughout the region. Lon talked about the prospect and the cash needed to undertake such an account. M.A.L.T.S. once again will do whatever necessary to help Lon out in his endeavor. Tasting of the BEER: You know it is why we show up! Terry provided Cream Ale and it was good! Greg provided ESB (green) and Red IPA and it was good! Lon provided Freedom Bridge and Blonde Ales and they were excellent! Lee provided Belgian Dubbel and everyone was shitfaced!! Excellent job to everyone with their beer and welcome to homebrewing Merv. Merv has a home brew kit now that will allow him to share his passion and vision about beer. It was at this time that Rich was "drunking fucking blabber" according to the notes. We escorted Lon outside into the 150 degree heat and presented him with the "Ghetto Brewer 1500" brew sculpture. Greg dropped Lee's pint glass full of beer on the driveway of the extraordinary home whereupon it shattered and spewed that golden nectar all over. Greg is on M.A.L.T.S. Probation now. Well folks, that is the end of my notes and the only other memory I have is of making off with the fondue, bread and a Sailing Hawks hat... which I now proudly wear. I won't kid any of you, I was drunk, they were drunk, you were drunk... and we just plum forgot about scheduling our next M.A.L.T.S. Meeting. Email or call me if you have any dates that are good for August. Adios Amigos,Gregorio Wales
